Anastasios I. Metaxas

Anastasios Ioannis Metaxas studied Law and Social Sciences at the University of Athens and in Aix-en-Provence (Bachelor and Master Diploma respectively). He has obtained two PhD diplomas. One from the University of Athens with honours and one from Aix-en-Provence, Doctorat d’Etat with très bien et éloges (with honours).He has been awarded the Gold Medal of the Academy of Provence and the Award of the School of Legal, Economic and Political Sciences of the University of Aix-en-Provence for his paper on system analysis.He is Professor Emeritus at the University of Athens. He has also served as visiting Professor at Strasbourg University, Budapest University and the University of Aix-en-Provence, as Dean of the Law School, President of the Department of Political Science, Director of the Policy Analysis Sector and President at the University of Peloponnese. He has been the founder and until recently the director of the Political Communication Laboratory at the University of Athens. Today he serves as the  Chairman of the Scientific Board of the Laboratory.From 1976 to 1986 he devoted his efforts at establishing the academic field of Political Science in the Athens University Law School, by proposing and achieving the creation of the Department of Political Science and Public Administration. He still teaches the course “Art and Power, The Political Speech through the Images of the 19th century, with parallel reference to socio-political institutions, literature and music” at the multidisciplinary postgraduate department of Political Science and Sociology at the University of Athens.He is a member of the Independent Committee for the Protection of Personal Data, a regular member at evaluation committees for articles submitted in European and American politial science reviews and elected member of Scientific Societies.He is President of the Executive Board of the Onassis Foundation Cultural Centre, member of the board in Science and Culture Foundations, including the Themistokles and Dimitris Tsatsos Foundation and the Alexandros Onassis Charitable Foundation.He has also cooperated with the press as regular article writer in many newspapers, such as ‘To Vima’, ‘To Vima Ideon’ and ‘Kathimerini’. Today he is the editor-in-chief of the column “To the Point” at the newspaper ‘Kosmos tou Ependiti’.
